Hellow fellow Birdos!
I'm pretty excited to share that this month I've been able achieve my
target and set a new big year record for Victoria. The previous record was
set in 2010 by Paul Dodd and Ruth Woodrow at the 392 mark (IOC listing) and
I am currently sitting on 400 species for the year.
With a few weeks left, I am still keen to try to climb as high as I can and
use my time as efficiently as possible. Some remaining targets of mine
include Plains-wanderer, Striated Heron, Greater Sand-plover, Lesser
Sand-plover, Crimson Chat, Pied Honeyeater and Ground Cuckooshrike. I am
off on a Port Fairy Pelagic in the morning still with the hope of birds
such as White-headed Petrel, Salvin's Albatross, South Polar Skua and
Long-tailed Jaeger.
Some other bird species in the back of my mind (no matter how crazy!)
include Brown Cuckoo-dove, Spotted Bowerbird, Wandering Whistling-Duck,
Black-breasted Buzzard, Grey Falcon, Eastern Grass Owl, Forest Kingfisher
etc. Anyone with even the slightest bit of info on these birds (or
something else!) would be enormously appreciated!
On a side note for Plains-wanderer and Grass Owl, I've spent two nights
chasing both birds up in the Myall and Pyramid Hill area but without even a
sniff! But I'll be going back this week (and doing whatever I have to do to
find them!). I have also spent many hours up at Neds Corner hoping that a
Buzzard crosses the border without any luck. Have also investigated three
Grey Falcon sites provided from some local knowledge without any success.
18 days left, fingers crossed that I can add another bird or two! All the
info on my 2014 VicTwitch is on my website here -

All the best and happy twitching!
