I have just finished reading H is for Hawk, by Helen Macdonald (Jonathan Cape
2014). While not a birding book per se, it involves birds. In the book, the
author tells of how she undertook the the training of a Northern Goshawk while
descending into deep depression brought on by the sudden death of her father.
Intertwined with her story, is a biography of the author T.H. White (The Once
and Future King), who also attempted the training of a Northern Goshawk, while
suffering from deep psychological problems.

The book is well written and gives an insight into falconry and the the psyche
of both human and raptor. May make a nice christmas gift for the literary
birder.
