Last weekend a crew of Canberra bird banders went to the Buddigower Nature Reserve in central west NSW. The banding wasn't brilliant, but the trip was interesting. I've just posted about it on my blog, HarPer's Bizarre - a naturalist's miscellany, at http://hdpphd.blogspot.com.au/ It appears that el Niño is starting to bite - it was very hot and dry, and there wasn't as much breeding going on as I'd have expected. Also, most birds seemed to be sticking to the canopy so total captures for the trip was fairly low. The highlight for me was probably the nesting Spotted Nightjars.
