Steve

If you have some time on other days, then use that to look around Kununurra, and spend the full day heading to Wyndham and then back to Kununurra. See my web site. The information is fairly old, but a couple of people have said recently that it is still reasonably good. I haven't been to Kununurra for a while. Also, you don't mention any particular species,

For Kununurra try :

Lily Creek Lagoon - Straight across from town. Some finches including Crimson. Good chance of White-browed Crake. Green Pygmy-goose.

Kona Creek Caravan Park / Golf Course - Worth a couple of hours. Highlights would be Buff-sided Robin, Yellow (Green) Oriole, White-browed Crake, finches. Australian Little (Black-backed) Bittern is a chance just after dawn.

Dunham River - I have two or three sites mentioned. Good chances of Buff-sided Robin, Shining Flycatcher, possible Black Bittern, etc.

Weaber Plains. See my web page. Good chance of Yellow-rumped Mannikin. Brolga. Australian Bustard.

Kununurra Sewage Ponds - Radjah Shelduck. Star Finch. Possible Red-chested Button-quail.

Hidden Valley (Mirima NP) - Chance of Sandstone Shrike-thrush, Chestnut-quilled Rock-Pigeon, Northern Rosella.

For the full day to Wyndham.

The Grotto - Chestnut-quilled Rock-Pigeon, Sandstone Shrike-thrush, possible Leaden Flycatcher, possible Spinifex Pigeon, possible Gouldian Finch or Pictorella Mannikin, possible Grey (Silver-backed) Butcherbird.

Marglu Billabong and nearby plains - Wide variety of waterbirds. Chance on the plain for Yellow Chat, Zitting Cisticola, button-quail.

Wyndham Wharf - Mangrove species.

Wyndham town - Look for water anywhere such as the statues, the caravan park, the hospital. Good chance of Gouldian Finch coming into drink.

Heading back to Kununurra, stop at any creek crossings that have any water and check for finches, doves, parrots, possibly even Black Bittern.

Look in any open eucalypt woodland for Black-tailed Treecreeper, Jacky Winter, Pictorella Mannikin, Grey-fronted Honeyeater.

All the best
