The illustrated HBW/ BirdLife Illustrated Checklist is due out shortly as Dave
Torr advised, with a pre-publication offer of 145 euros, but remember this is
Vol 1 Non-Passerines only, Vol 2 Passerines is scheduled for 2016 so we'll have
to wait till then to find out if BirdLife accepts the split of Striated
Grassrwen into 4- presumably not if they are going only by morphology, but
there seems to be a giant splitfest imminent with their system, with bits and
pieces dribbling out!
Meantime the Internet Bird Collection gives you access to an amazing range of
videos, photos and sound cuts covering something like 90% of world species, and
with access to all 16 volumes of HBW that are being updated (not sure if
recently published vol 17 is there yet). Costs around 30 euros per annum with
sometimes a 10 euro initial joining fee which they seem to waive at times.
Highly recommended.
