Location: Newland Head CP Waitpinga end.

Scarlet Robin (Petroica boodang) (3) 2 Male and 1 Female sighted on a Fleurieu 
bird outing. Track leading up from the camp ground.

Eastern Spinebill (Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris) (1) Single bird sighted on 
same track as Robins.

Location: Basham's Beach Port Elliot

Sanderling (Calidris alba) (7) Birds were running in and out of the sea with 
the tide.

Sooty Oystercatcher (Haematopus fuliginosus) (2) Tide was out and birds were 
feeding in the we tsand and weed.

Location: Goolwa

Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea) (100) As a second to Win Sysons report, 
2nd pull in below barrage at least 100 Curlew Sandpiper present, birds flew in 
from south.
Between 08.00 -11.00 hrs at least 500 Red necked Stint counted from kayak out 
in Goolwa Channel quite a number colouring up.

Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea) (40) Birds were feeding on a in coming 
tide, second pull in behind the Barrage

Great Knot (Calidris tenuirostris) (6) Birds were feeding with Curlew Sandpipers

Red Knot (Calidris canutus) (4) Again birds were feeding with the other 
mentioned waders. Other waders present Sharp-tailed Sandpiper,Red-necked 
Stint,Greenshank and one only Marsh Sandpiper.

formed single flock of 10; roosting amongst rocky boulders, Stokes Bay rocky 
beach, 26 Feb 2014.

Sharp-tailed Sandpiper (Calidris acuminata) (c.100) feeding in mud and 
shallows, overflow ponds at flooded Rush Lagoon, KI, 12 March 2014.

Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) (1) adult male flying over farmland, N side 
of Murrays Lagoon, KI, 1 March 2014.

Eastern Reef Egret (Egretta sacra) (1) roosting in boulders, Stokes Bay, KI, 16 
March 2014.

Banded Stilt (Cladorhynchus leucocephalus) (70) feeding in shallows, S end of 
Rush Lagoon, KI, 12 March 2014.

Red-necked Avocet (Recurvirostra novaehollandiae) (6) feeding in shallows with 
70 Banded Stilt, S end of Rush Lagoon, KI, 12 March 2014.

Australasian Shoveler (Anas rhynchotis) (40) brackish Rush Lagoon, KI, 12 March 
2014; comprised 20 pairs; males still showing bright breeding plumage.

Cape Barren Goose (Cereopsis novaehollandiae) (100) feed and camp on farmland 
pasture at S end of Rush Lagoon, KI, 1 March 2014.

Little Grassbird (Megalurus gramineus) (2+) calling and skulking about in dense 
fringing swamp paperbarks, Rush lagoon, KI, 1 March 2014.

Australasian Gannet (Morus serrator) (10) plunge diving into sea to feed on 
fish debris left by frenzied feeding activity of Southern Bluefin Tuna, Cape du 
Couedic, KI, 20 March 2014.

Painted Button-quail (Turnix varius) (1) male crossing Playford Highway, 
Kohinoor Hill, KI, 17 March 14; Peppermint Mallee/Narrow-Leaf Mallee/Drooping 
Sheoak; c. 20 km W of Kingscote.

Whistling Kite (Haliastur sphenurus) (1) flying over farmland and brackish 
paperbark swamp, Rush Lagoon, KI, 12 March 2014; rare vagrant on KI; Jane 
Renwick, Pip Masters, Chris Baxter.

Sacred Kingfisher (Todiramphus sanctus) (2) perched in coastal mallee at 
Muston, W shore of Pelican Lagoon, KI; 16 March 2014; only site for regular 
observation of this species on KI; low tide exposes tidal mud flats as foraging 
habitat.

Hooded Plover (Thinornis rubricollis) (17) on full length of c. 4 km long 
Vivonne Bay beach/es; KI, 16 March 2014; comprised 1 adult; adult pair; 11 
adults and 3 grey-headed immatures formed single flock of 14; appears that 
Vivonne Bay only fledged 2 or 3 young this year.

Double-banded Plover (Charadrius bicinctus) (1) with c. 60 Red-necked Stints on 
edge of shallow overflow pond at S end of Rush Lagoon, KI, 12 March 2014; Rush 
Lagoon is a brackish paperbark swamp, currently chock full of water courtesy of 
mega-floodwaters in winter of 2013; Pip Masters, Jane Renwick, Chris Baxter.

Bush Stone-curlew (Burhinus grallarius) (1) disturbed from daytime refuge on 
edge of clearing in Sugar Gum/Drooping Sheoak woodland, Lathami CP, KI, 15 
March 2014.

Blue-billed Duck (Oxyura australis) (c.200) similar ratio of females to 
breeding plumage males, Rush Lagoon, KI, 12 March 2014.

Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) (1) resting on rocky boulder, rocky 
breakwater, Stokes Bay, KI, 1 March 2014.

Hoary-headed Grebe (Poliocephalus poliocephalus) (c.100) adults with several 
clutches of young, brackish Rush Lagoon, KI, 12 March 2014

Freckled Duck (Stictonetta naevosa) (7) 5 on freshwater Kaiwarra Swamp, Seal 
Bay turn-off, KI, 1 March 2014

Location: Clayton Bay

Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) (10) Approx. 10 Wood Sandpipers in pool 
adjacent to Alexandrina Drive. Water level in pool low, with several meters of 
mud exposed around shore line. Other waders present, 6 Sharp-tailed Sandpiper, 
2 Red-necked Stint, 1 Common Greenshank, 2 Masked Lapwing and 25 Black-winged 
Stilt.

Pink-eared Duck (Malacorhynchus membranaceus) (2) Same location as above. In 
all a total of 18 species of birds were recorded at the pool.
