Graeme,
We had a trip in Nov/Dec to Sth America, Falklands, Sth Georgia and
Antarctica. We contacted Fred Homer in Santiago through birdingpal. Fred
was wonderful. We made a terrific friend in Fred. For a reasonable fee,
he picked us up at the airport, took us to a coastal apartment he had
rented for us and himself, took us birding each day, and we had a
wonderful time with him. Saw some fantastic birds, also up in the Andes
out of Santiago. Of course we were there for longer, but perhaps Fred
might be available to help you. We handed over an agreed amount to Fred
when we arrived, and that covered all of our costs for our time there.
Fred was also very helpful to us with recommendations for accommodation
in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. You couldn't meet a nicer bloke. Have
a great time.
Cheers,
Jill

Three of us are heading for a birding trip in Ecuador in November.
We have decided to break the journey for a few days in Santiago on the way over
and would like to locate a Guide for at least a day, as time there will be
short and it is our first trip to South America.
I have had a look at "Birding Pal" of course but given the terrific experience available
on the "list" we would greatly appreciate any recommendations for a Santiago based Guide.
Responses off or on list greatly appreciated.
With Thanks
