Greetings, On Sunday at a nearby wetland I observed a group of 6 Hardhead Ducks which was composed of 5 males and one female. Then at a second wetland there were 8 Green Pygmy Geese, all male. On Monday at Hasties Swamp there were 5 Cotton Pygmy Geese which were all males. What is going on? Is there a surfeit of males in the population and the paired birds are off breeding elsewhere? By the way there are at least five Freckled Duck still at Hasties Swamp and one of these birds is a male starting to colour at the base of his bill.
