Hi Anthea,

I've seen these plants too and I suspect they are a "Monkey-flower" latin
name Mimulus, which like to grow on the bare mud as wetlands dry.

I've seen them a plenty on lignum wetlands in northern Victoria as they dry
up, and they certainly do make for a lovely spectacle.

The Creeping Monkey-Flower Mimulus repens is the one I've seen in the north
many times, but this may be a different variety, maybe Small Monkey-Flower
Mimulus prostrates.

Have to confess though I didn't have a really close look when I was last at
the WTP, so happy to be corrected.

Cheers,

Simon Starr
