Hi All, It is possible to view the ponds from outside the fence if you are prepared to walk the 10 minutes from the end of Hodgson Drive in Leanyer. You can walk around some of the perimeter to get better views of the northern ponds, but still, much of the complex will be quite distant, so depending on where the phalarope is you may only get 'tickable' views with a 'scope. Given the focus of most people making the trip, I'm sure that will be fine. Better than missing out altogether. Incidentally, these mangroves outside the ponds are very good for Mangrove Golden Whistler and Mangrove Robin. Good luck to those making the trip, and good birding to all!
