Picaridin! Goes on much more like water, works great...tested out to work
as well as DEET. It doesn't melt plastics and such the way that DEET does.
Some varieties of the Off Skintastic line have Picaridin...it isn't hard to
find Picaridin in Aus.
Hazy memory: The ADF and US Army, I believe, put a ton of money into
finding ideal bug repellants. They found some that were 100% effective that
didn't work in the field. Why? People hated putting them on. Picaridin is
so, so much nicer than DEET that I'm willing to use it far more often.
That's super important if you're in an environment with
serious mosquito disease, including parts of northern Aus.
P.S. Agreed on the Pizzey and Knight guide, it really is quite good and a
lot of fun to use. I've found the sounds between Morcombe and Pizzey
complementary in many cases. Visually, P&K is vastly more useful.
