Hi Lena,

My suggestion would be to contact the Adelaide Zoo vets for advice. I think it
will definitely need to get transported to a vet for assessment and treatment
of that fractured wing as bandaging may not be enough. The bird might need
surgery and will definitely need medication. The keepers at Adelaide might be
also able to suggest a good diet for a wild Native-hen.

I have forwarded your query to the Adelaide Zoo vets, but the zoo number is 08
8267 3255 if you want to give them a call.

Cheers,
Vanessa

Hi Birding-Aus,

Is there someone out there who has some experience with Black-tailed
Native-Hens in captivity and can give some advice to Lena? See below.

Cheers,

Nikolas

Hey Nikolas,
thx, yes we're in Elliston in SA now. There's no vet here we have to take him
to Port Lincoln I guess but that needs to wait a while because I'm working. I
bandaged the broken wing onto him so at least thats not hanging on the ground
anymore. We gave him some snails and oats and water. Is that ok?

Hi Lena,
Is this Sheringa, SA? Is there a chance to take your Black-tailed Native-Hen to
a local vet - ideally to one who specialises in birds?
Good luck!
