Birding Aussers
I suspect that most of you will have heard of Bo Beolens, the Fat Birder.
You may even have consulted his legendary websites for advice on trips,
read his reviews of bird books or operators, or even made new contacts and
friends through his efforts to put birders in touch with each other. Some
will even know that Bo has led trips of disabled birders throughout the
world.
To all birders Bo has been a shining light, and especially the disabled or
ill, seniors, children, and women, the unfit, and the unacclimatised, indeed
anyone who has at times, found birding a challenge. But more than that Bo
has been a friend to many, the sort of friend that having been through so
much greets anything you tell him with empathy and understanding, and often
possible solutions. Bo's humour is also legendary. Who else would refer to
themselves as "fat" or "grumpy"?
Now Bo needs a hand, for he and ex-wife Cherry, have experienced the worst
that any parent has to face, the loss of a child. Their daughter, Suki,
died a couple of months ago, just after her husband suffered a devastating
brain aneurisym.
Bo writes of Suki:
"Suki Bryson née Crombet-Beolens wanted the world to be saved from the
ravages of human kind. She passionately believed in greener energy, more
re-cycling and real conservation."
Bo doesn't want condolences; they just make him weep. But he and his family
do want to do something positive in Suki's memory. Here again in Bo's
words:
The aim is to buy a small plot of land of just a few acres and plant a
woodland and make it accessible. Its a long term project for Cherry, me and
my son Ash. The website about it is here: www.sukiwoodlandtrust.org
<http://www.sukiwoodlandtrust.org>.
Michael and I have already donated.
The Bo's of this world are precious. So let's give this one a helping hand
from the other side of the world.
