Victorian state budget

Was a couple of weeks back now, but it's a complex set of documents
and I'm still finding things.

The Victorian Government's target and actual numbers for "significant
stakeholder interactions on climate variability, adaptation and risk
managment" (note that since the 2010 election, the Government no
longer uses the term "climate change", if anything it's "climate
variability"). The number of "interactions" in 2011-12 was 3,451, the
target for 2012-13 was 1,500, which was close to what they actually
did, and the 2013-14 target has dropped to 420.

In a somewhat rare burst of candidness, the budget papers themselves
explain that:"the lower 2013-14 target reflects the refocusing of DEPI
[Department of Environment and Primary Industries] efforts into higher
priorities" (Budget Paper No.3, 2013-14 Service Delivery, May 2013,
p.115).

I'm not entirely sure what makes up one of these "interactions", but
I'm guessing it's things like attendance at a seminar on climate
change, etc.

"Higher priorities" probably means something that pays or votes.

Sad.
