South East Queensland is experiencing Freckled Duck fever at the moment,
with sightings being reported all over The Lockyer Valley, and more
recently, from Kilcoy. So I guess it was just a matter of time before they
started to show up in Brisbane. Today I was lucky enough to locate six birds
on the main lake at Kedron Brook Wetlands just near the Airport. Normally
quite scarce in this neck of the woods, they have arrived with lots of other
species that are also normally uncommon in Brisbane. At the wetlands today:
both species of Harrier, 23 Pink-eared Ducks, 7 Shovelers, 2 Yellow-billed
Spoonbills and an Australian Hobby. I guess we Brisbane birders don't have
to drive out to Gatton anymore!
