Some nice birds I saw today and late yesterday in the Lockyer Valley
included 6 Freckled Ducks on Pechey's Lagoon, 200+ Hoary-headed Grebes on
Seven-Mile Lagoon (an extraordinary number for this species in south-east
Queensland), 8 Plum-headed Finches near Pechey's Lagoon, 2 Blue-billed Ducks
on Seven-Mile Lagoon and 120 Australasian Shovelers on Seven-Mile Lagoon
(again, a large number for this species in SEQ). Clearly many inland
waterbirds are dispersing in large numbers to coastal areas. Pink-eared
Duck, normally a rare visitor to the region, was probably the commonest
waterfowl in the valley when the many thousands that are present on
Seven-Mile Lagoon are taken into account..
