G'day all I vote for capitalisation. I have the same issue with plant names. Journals will not publish capitalised common names of pasture species. There is only one Annual Ryegrass (Lolium rigidum) but several annual ryegrasses. L. rigidum, multiflorum, persicum and temulentum are all usually annuals.
