Birdline Northern Territory

Published sightings for the week ending 3 Mar 2013.

Sat 23 Feb Barking Owl, Large-tailed Nightjar, Red-backed Fairywren East Point (Darwin)
Finished my trip to the Top End with an afternoon and early evening visit to East Point. I found what might have been either a night time roost (it was dusk) or a high tide roost of Eastern Reef Egrets, with 17 together in a small area. 4 were white morphs, the first all trip (of a total of 32 for the two weeks). In the mangroves near the start of the mangrove walk's main boardwalk, I heard a Red-backed Fairywren, and found a female - apparently new for the site. Once dark fell, I was able to find a Large-tailed Nightjar hawking from powerlines, as well as six more nightbirds, of which only two were seen identifiably (I only had my iPhone as a torch...). Both were Barking Owls.
