Hi Bob
Sasol Birds of Southern Africa is certainly one of the most
comprehensive guides for everywhere except S Zambia, where you will find
a few more species, but with a bit of research you can get internet
based info on those.
There are also Apple and Android apps available - I have found the best
of those is Roberts Multimedia, with plates, photos and the calls.
For the tougher species, there is a new book out, LBJ's of Southern
Africa, far more comprehensive than the earlier publication from Newman
and King - this is only available through the author's website (I don't
think international posting is catered for, but email him to find out)
or at Chamberlains Hardware stores in South Africa (if that sounds an
odd outlet, they sponsored the book). Check www.lbjs.co.za
Cheers

Subject: RFI African Field Guides
Hi All
Am looking at doing a trip in Africa later this year, southern Zambia,
northern Botswana and Namibia, mostly Namibia.
Can anyone suggest what would be the best field guide to take?
Thanks
Bob
