Hi Peter,

A good resource for pelagic birds is the Helm Field Guide - Albatrosses,
Petrels and Shearwaters of the World by Onley and Scofield.  A website
worth checking out is Ocean Wanders (
http://www.oceanwanderers.com/Seabird.Home.html), which also has a lot of
information.  Congrats on seeing Barau's Petrel, and hope these help!
