Hi Peter,
There are some excellent images on Rohan Clarke's website (taken by Adrian
Boyle):
http://www.pbase.com/wildlifeimages/baraus_petrel
And here of course some of the pictures taken last Saturday by Raja:
http://www.adarman.com/Pelagics/New-South-Wales-Pelagics/2013-February-09-Sydney
There is a number of literature for either that species or similar species (to
be ruled out):
Howell,
S.N.G. (2012): Petrels, Albatrosses, and Storm-Petrels of North America: A
Photographic Guide. Princeton. • Marchant, S. & P.J. Higgins(eds) (1990).
Handbook
of Australian, New Zealand and Antarctic Birds. Volume 1: Ratites to Ducks.
Melbourne.• Onley, D.
& P. Scofield (2007): Albatrosses, Petrels & Shearwaters of the
World. Princeton.• SHIRIHAI, H. (2007, 2nd ed.): A Complete Guide to Antarctic
Wildlife. London.
Hope that helps a bit.
Cheers,
Nikolas

Subject: [Birding-Aus] Barau's Petrel and a plea for help
Good Morning
Pelagic birding is a humbling experience but I am grateful for it. I was
present on Saturday when the Barau's Petrel was seen off Sydney. And, based on
the experts around me I am happy to tick it off! However, there's a problem -
it's not in my Australian guidebook (Pizzey 2003). I did add it to my IOC-based
spread-list but that doesn't solve my problem. I'd appreciate any advice on
resources, either online or old fashioned hardcopy, that could help with
pelagic birding. Further, I'd appreciate it if someone could point me to the
definitive list of Australian sightings. I have links to Tony Palliser's page -
is that what I'm looking for?
I apologise if this has been done to death in previous posts. I am happy to
receive responses offline.
Thanks.
Have a nice day.
Cheers
Peter
