Birdline ACT

Published sightings for the week ending 10 Feb 2013.

Sat 9 Feb Fork-tailed Swift West Belconnen ponds
Fork-tailed Swift (3). I was heading back to my car when a welcome swallow flew over my head. I turned around and found 3 slender swifts just in front of me. The birds were flying very low (about 20 meters from my head). Notes: Soft flight, dark sooty swift with white throat and rump. Long and thin tail ending with a clear fork. The birds were coming from the suburb and after I fist pumped the air Dooley style they disappeared direction SW.

Fri 8 Feb Fork-tailed Swift, White-throated Needletail Mount Painter
About 20 swifts were putting on a great show in the sunset over Mt Painter, staying just ahead of the storm clouds, at 8 pm this evening (Friday). Most were White-throated Needletails but about five were Fork-tailed Swifts.
Martin Edvardsson

Birdline ACT is sponsored by Eremaea Birds and co-ordinated and hosted by Eremaea Birds.
