G'day all, The WA Twitchathon was held across the weekend of the 1st & 2nd of
December, and I hope it was an enjoyable weekend for all participants
(unfortunately I had to pull out due to illness) The good news from this year
is that there have been new high counts recorded in all three categories
(possibly a legacy of some extra arid birds around?). On the flipside, it seems
all winning teams from last year have retained their trophies (I guess with the
slight exception of a name change and some team member shuffling for the 12hr
winners). Great for those teams but not so good for the rest :D Many thanks
again to all the participants, the Twitchathon only works if people sign up!

Anyhow, below are the provisional results - the final presentations will take
place at the BirdLife WA meeting on the 21 January Cheers,John

24hr Competition
1st - 182: Western Whistlers (Steve Burns & Mark Newman)
2nd - 177: The Ruff Knights (Russell Cannings, Bruce Greatwich & Nigel Jackett)
3rd - 162: S.W.A.T. (Rose Ferrell, David Secomb & Peter Taylor)
4th - 143: The Big Twits (Martin Cake & Greg Howell) - obviously missing their
star performer :D
5th - 117: Hunters & Collectors (Rowan Du Boulay, Ian Purdy & Louis Purdy)
6th - 115: The Rainbow Avocets (Morgan Pickering & Robyn Pickering)
7th - 87: Stark Raven Mad (Wes Bancroft, Scarlett Bancroft & Leo Bancroft)

12hr Competition
1st - 145: The Whiskered MOB (Dimitris Bertzeletos, Wayne Merritt & Frank
O'Connor)
2nd - 85: Peeping Pardalotes (Kerry Cowie, Andrew Hobbs, Jill Hobbs & Libby
McGill)

Armchair Competition
1st - 63: Lazy Old Bustards (George Agar & Pam Agar - Canning Wetlands)
2nd - 45: The OBE Team (Clive Napier, Wendy Napier & Brian Wilson -Yangebup
Lake)
3rd - 44: Grey-crowned Babblers (Ray Flanagan, Maris Lauva & Sue Mather -
Herdsman Lake)

Best Bird: There are some excellent candidates this year, many as a result of
the influx of arid zone birds into the greater Perth area. Some excellent
candidates include Budgerigar (Western Whistlers at Wearne Rd and Whiskered MOB
near Lake McLarty), Diamond Dove (Hunters & Collectors at Bickley Brook
Reservoir), Masked Owl (Western Whistlers at Dryandra), Zebra Finch (Big Twits
near Wongan Hills), White-fronted Honeyeater (Big Twits near Wongan Hills), and
Black Honeyeater (Rainbow Avocets at Wearne Rd)

Worst Dip: A few good candidates, but though I prefer not to award this prize
jointly, it's really hard to go past Australian Magpie (missed by Grey-crowned
Babblers and The O.B.E. Team)
