Hi John,
There have been quite a few White-browed and Masked going over
recently. I had them very low over Wentworth Falls on Friday. However
500 Duskies is extremely unusual. We normally see only small groups
of Duskies going over on migration in spring and autumn, and a few
pairs breed in the heathlands, e.g. at Kings Tableland.
Incidentally, there are currently thousands of White-browed and
Masked in the Capertee Valley. An amazing sight as they come down to
their roosting trees in the late afternoon. Looks like it might be a
good woodswallow year in this part of NSW.
Cheers,
Carol

Staying at Leura on a non birding holiday, but sneaking off for
birding from time to time :-)
Yesterday I walked to one of the lookouts south of Leura and was
amazed to see 500+ dusky wss hawking along the cliff line (scanned
carefully for other spp)
Today in the mist I did a similar walk and heard the noise of wss
above in the mist, however looking at a few that popped out below
the clouds iamcertain they were masked and white-browed
Does this happen in the blue mountains (flocks of different wss spp
on different days at this time of year?)
