Red Wattlebird (albino)
Newland Head Conservation Park, SA
I first saw this white bird flying with several other wattlebirds over the clifftop scrub at 9.15 am on Sept. 26th. The flight was definately wattlebird, and I was able to see where it landed. Wednesday was a very windy day and the birds all landed in a Eucalypt nearby, and I was able to observe it from a distance of about 50 meters. The white was not a Silver Gull white , but more an off white. It had a small amount of yellow on the belly, typical of the species, and was a greyish white on the crown. I could not clearly see the wattles as the bird was moving all over the place in the wind. I have been a birdo for 50 plus years and have never seen a wattlebird like this. Are there any previous records of albinism in this species?
