Hi all,
Last week Friday, 21st Spetember, a possible Red-footed Booby was seen
at Capricorn Canal, South Golden Beach, Northern NSW. It would be great if this
bird could be confirmed. Red-footed Booby will require a submission to NSW ORAC.
Here the description we got (see Eremaea, Birdline NSW):
Description: a large bird preening on a branch hanging low over the water at
around 2.30pm. Its large bright red webbed feet and thick red legs were
particularly obvious. The general colour was beige/brown. Apparently it had a
large bill but the bill colour was not noticed. Apparently, the bird was large
("an inexperienced co-observer thought it was an albatross and also noted the
red legs and feet and particularly nobbly feet"). A Silver Gull was considered
(because of the webbed red feet) but ruled out by size and plumage colour. The
observer's conclusion was intermediate morph Red-footed Booby. Unfortunately no
photographs were taken.
Cheers,
Nikolas
