I did a little checking on the status of Gouldians in the Coomalie area.
Researchers have been working on birds in that area for about 25 years, and
this is the first year they have seen Gouldians there. I had thought they'd
been seen there previously, but obviously not. Clearly a significant
observation then. Coomalie is about 30km or so south-west of an area where
they have been seen quite regularly during the Dry Season at least in
fairly recent years. Hopefully it means that the last breeding season was a
good one for them, rather than that the areas where they normally go have
been burnt out and made unsuitable.
