I agree with Peter's point about cumulative impacts.
There is also an ethical issue. Translocation of a territorial animal,
knowing that it has a good chance of dying or being injured as a result of
this action, can be viewed as animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is illegal.

It's true that the death of one urban possum might cause little or no
environmental damage, but if the rule is changed to allow that then
thousands will be moved. Won't overpopulation at their destinations cause
damage?
