Hi Birders,
I got word today that the Red Centre Bird Festival (formerly Red Centre
Birdweek) will be happening this year between 30th September and 7th October.
The Alice Springs Field Naturalists have published a provisional program which
I'll cut and paste below. Its organised by the Desert Park so for definitive
details give them a call on 08 89518788. This community event is now in its
fourth year and it is always a huge amount of fun. Early morning weekday events
such as 'Birds Before Work' (that should be every birders war cry!) have been
really successful in attracting new birders, and the popular Red Centre
Twitchathon has become a classic event of birding: think 'Wacky Races' with
Grasswrens and Grey Honeyeaters! Last year a mate and I competed on mountain
bikes and still managed a respectable list, as well as a couple of skinned
knees. I am moving heaven and earth to try and make it there this year. Birders
should get their skates on and join in!
Hopefully see you there!?!
Red Centre Bird Festival 2012

The Red Centre Bird Festival is a celebration of birds. The week is full of

desert and connect with local birdlife, learn about birds from the experts,
compete with zany birdwatchers in
the Red Centre Twitchathon, admire the creativity and talent displayed at Bird
Art in the Park, pick up a
bird-inspired artwork from the Bird Art Market or feel the festivity of the
school kids in their Bird Flags
displays around the Desert Park. Events are free (or included with Park entry)
