I am looking for a camera with a good focal range and light in weight. I note
the Nikon P510 weighs only 555g. and has a 42x optical zoom which is the
equivalent to that of 24-1000mm in a 35mm format. It also has vibration
reduction by means of lens shift. I know it will not take photos as clear as an
SLR with different lens (I do have a Nikon SLR but it is getting too heavy for
me) but the photos should be able to identify birds. It may also be able to be
used as a telescope but would use up batteries.

Has anyone any experience with this camera for taking photos of birds or even
bird watching or has any other recommendations for a light weight camera with a
good zoom for bird photos.
