Scarlet Chested Parrot
app 100km south of Alice Springs, Stuart Highway, Northern Territory
Roadside perched in dead tree-highly noticeable with sunshining on it and striking colour.
Perfect conditions after rainy night saw many other species out in the morning as it was warming up: the usual stacks of budgies, zebra finches anywhere you care to stop, spiny cheeked honeyeaters, crested bellbirds, hooded robins, fairywrens (but not much colour ATM), abundant black-faced woodswallows, a couple Major Mitchells and closer to Alice a couple Dozen Mulga Parrots

Asian Stubtail
West Island, Ashmore Reef
An Asian Stubtail was found and photographed at Ashmore Reef. This is the first record for Australia and a A real surprise given the nearest previous record is from the central Philippines and most of these tiny migrants winter no further south than Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. This was a one day bird, found around midday during a shorebird count, watched again that evening whilst it bathed in a tropical downpour and never seen again.

Eastern Crowned Warbler
West Island, Ashmore Reef
An Eastern Crowned Warbler was found and photographed at Ashmore Reef. This is the first record for Australia and a long expected addition to the list given the species’ abundance in nearby Indonesia. The bird frequented the same patch of shrubs over a 2 day period. This is the third species of Phylloscopus warbler to be recorded at Ashmore Reef in the space of 12 months.

Siberian Blue Robin
West Island, Ashmore Reef
An immature male Siberian Robin was found and photographed at Ashmore Reef. The first record for Australia, it was present for three days.

Oriental Honey-Buzzard, Japanese Sparrowhawk, Siberian Thrush
West Island, Ashmore Reef
In addition to three first records for Australia listed seperately on Birdline, Ashmore Reef produced 6 Oriental Honey-Buzzards that arrived on the island as a single flock, roosted overnight and departed the following morning, an immature male Siberian Thrush that was present from the 18-23 April and a Japanese Sparrowhawk that fed on a hapless Shining Bronze Cuckoo whilst we watched on the morning of the 27 April . Less than an hour after this bird had been found it flew north off the island towards Timor.

Asian Brown Flycatcher
Browse Island, Western Australia
An Asian Brown Flycatcher was found and photographed at Browse Island off the coast of the Kimberleys during a seabird and shorebird survey in mid April. This is the first record for Western Australia and about the 7th record for Australia (Previous records have been at Ashmore Reef (5) and the Cocos Islands (1)).
