Earthflight

Tony,

I tried to speak to Brian Feeney, of Programing at Channel Nine in Sydney, but was redirected to his voicemail. I left my comments re the switch on his vm. I think I may follow up with an email, as well. I have, BTW, emailed David Tennant and had a grump at him over the switch.

When speaking to another person at Ch. 9, it emerged that Ch. 9 has made some "cuts" to the original program. If anyone wishes to see the "real" program, I suggest that they buy the DVD. The DVD is available in the UK, but only for region 2, so if you want to play it here you will need a multi-region DVD player. If you don't have a multi-region DVD player, ask a nerdy teenager if they could hack your existing player. You could always watch it on your computer. If your computer is locked into only playing DVDs from our region, I would suggest downloading the program VLC. It is free and will play just about any thing.

Cheers,

Carl Clifford

I wonder which twit in Channel 9 decided to change the voice over and why.

Yep...spoiled it for me too. "Wooden" is a good word to describe Charles
Woolley's voice. I usually just call it annoying. I had the sound turned
down for a while. I hadn't thought of just waiting for the DVD. Thanks.

Dear All,

I watched the first episode of the BBC series Earthflight, which looks
at the worlds birdlife, on the 9 network this evening. I seems that it
will be a great series, and has has received considerable plaudits in
the UK. The original version has the mellifluous Scots burr of David
Tennant as the voice-over. Unfortunately, the 9 network, in its
wisdom, has decided to replace Mr Tennant's voice-over with a rather
wooden Australian voice-over. I highly recommend the series, but I
don't think I will be watching any further episodes. Instead, I will
be buying the DVD, and watch it as it was meant to be.

Cheers,

Carl Clifford
