Don,
Both Clements and IOC treat it as Polytelis. Maybe I've missed a recent paper
on re-splitting the genus.
World Bird Info says:
POLYTELIS ALEXANDRAE
<Polyteles alexandrae
Gould,1863,Proceedings of the Scientific Meetings of the Zoological
Society of London,Pt.2,p.232. (Howell's Ponds,Central Australia.)
>Spathopterus North,1895,Ibis,p.339.Type,by original designation,S.alexandrae
>(Gould) = Polytelis alexandrae Gould,1863.
>Note:Spathopterus is available under ICZN Art.56(b).and contains only
>P.alexandrae.
|Northipsitta Mathews,1912,Austral Avian

preoccupation by Spathoptera Audinet-Serville,1835 (Coleoptera).

$Platycercus alexandrae Finsch,1868,Die Papageien,monographisch

$Spathopterus alexandrae Mathews,1913,A List of the Birds of Australia,p.129.

Subject: Princess Parrot gets a new scientific name?
I was recently informed that Princess Parrot is to be given a new
scientific name. Changed from Polytelis alexandrae to *Spathopterus
alexandrae. *This of course would have it removed from being a close
relative to Superb and Regent Parrots. Can anyone tell me a bit more about
this please? Especially the decision to remove it from Polytelis.
*
*
*Thanks very much!*
