Dave,

Unfortunately, there is no age discrimination legislation in Switzerland, where Ramsar is based. Having looked at the conditions of employment, they also discriminate against married people; no spouse or children allowed. There is also no accommodation options, you must only live in a Ramsar provided studio apartment. The net wage, approx. AUD 500 per week, would not go far in Switzerland either. You would have to be young and keen to put up with what they want from you and what you would gain from it.

The Ramsar Secretariat welcomes applications for the position of Intern/Assistant Advisor for the Asia/Oceania region, a 12-month posting (possibly extendable up to 18 months) in the Ramsar Secretariat in Switzerland to begin on 1 June 2012.

IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, provides administrative services for the Ramsar Convention, and more information and online application for this post is available on the IUCN website at:

Here is a checklist of Ramsar's requirements for this position:

* You are under 30 years old.
* You have a university degree (preferably a post-graduate qualification) in a subject relevant to wetland conservation and sustainable use, such as, biology, hydrology, marine sciences, natural resources management, land use planning, geography or anthropology/ sociology. * You are a national of countries in Asia or Oceania and have lived most of your life in the region. * You have perfect fluency in English, written and spoken. Knowledge of French would be an advantage.

The deadline for applications is 16 February 2012.
