A quick correction - the Robin Redneck's total of 224 EQUALLED the total set
in 1994 by the Dirty Harriers. Apologies to the Dirty Harriers for
overlooking them when I posted the results last night. Nonetheless, an
impressive result by both teams!

Results
The Birds Australia Victoria Twitchathon was held this weekend. There were
six teams competing in the 8-hour event and eight teams competing in the
24-hour event (although one team will be competing next weekend due to
previous commitments last weekend).
As always with the Twitchathon there were all sorts of teams competing -
from the "serious" die-hard competitors, to first timers. In the eight hour
category one team (100 Would Do Us) consisted of a family with two young
children - and easily had the youngest competitor at five years old!
The results in the 8-hour "champagne" category were as follows:
Norwegian Blues 149 species (best bird: Baillon's Crake, biggest dip:

Common Loudmouths 145 species (best bird: Dollarbird, biggest dip: Rainbow

Big Dippers 102 species (best bird: Mistletoebird, biggest dip:

The provisional results in the 24-hour category were as follows:

Firstly, congratulations to the winning teams - the Norwegian Blues in the
8-hour category and provisionally, the Robin Rednecks in the 24-hour
category - truly spectacular results! As far as I can tell, the Robin
Rednecks have broken the 24-hour Twitchathon record, so an extra
congratulations!
For me it was a pleasure to organise the event and to participate again
after a year's absence. It was particularly great to have some new
first-time entrants this year - let's hope you keep on participating and
let's encourage some more teams to play too!
I will publish final results next week after The Bob Hawks have run.
Hopefully I will have details of the money raised by the event and will be
able to nominate the team that has raised the most for bird research and
conservation.
Thanks once again to all teams that participated - whether for the sheer fun
of it, or for the serious competition.
