type the name into googlemaps or something similar as it does to send a message
complaining to birding-aus.With the added bonus of getting an actual map or
satellite image, which is much more descriptive than words or GPS references on
here. And whilst there may be odd time there is still confusion I would wager
that nine times out of ten you get the right spot. There is certainly only one
Croker Island in Australia showing on googlemaps.”

It actually takes less time to insert “NT” or “Northern Territory” (for
example) in the original posting.
Incidentally, the original posting on this particular thread (“Crocker Island
Birds”) contained a reference to “Palm Bay”.
A Google search on that name finds a “Palm Bay” in Melbourne, Australia, and a
“Palm Bay” in Florida, USA.
It could be said that, as there are no crocodiles in Florida (apart, perhaps,
in some zoo), it should be obvious that the report did not refer to Florida.
But, as the Google search did not bring up a reference to a place in the
Northern Territory, perhaps the “Palm Bay” in Melbourne is the place being
referred to.

My personal solution to preventing irritation when it is not clear to where the
report refers is to simply disregard the posting and go onto something more
revealing.
I spend enough time at the computer without wasting that time trying to work
out to where a certain posting may refer.

Incidentally, again, I find it much more irritating trying to read postings
with missing words.
