Dear all, Has there been a 100% confirmation that these birds are actually the southern sub-species of the Black-throated Finch? The article doesn't really explicitly say that. In spring 2000 funded by NPWS, I and others were involved in an extensive search for the BTF throughout northern NSW and Southern Queensland. This resulted in an article in 2001, in the "Australian Bird Watcher" now "Australian Field Ornithology". This search reinforced the belief that they were extinct in these parts.
