hello Don, are you going to be on Croker for a while? if so would be good to
meet up with you when I go there again next July or August. I go there to
work with the Iwaidja language project with Bruce Birch and senior Iwaidja
speakers and do a little birding in between. Have not had a chance to check out
the sewage ponds so am envious of your snipe.
I saw a Royal spoonbill there last year, at that Ajamuji floodplain; see

the BA Atlas site too.

Subject: Croker Island birds
We are living on Croker Island at the moment. The famous
floodplain between the airstrip and community is largely dry
and has plenty of Little Curlews and Australian Pratincoles.
Near some remnant wet areas, were two Buff-banded Rail, 9
Marsh Sandpipers neither of which along with Little Curlew,
have been recorded on Croker Is before. Other new birds for
Croker Island I have seen are Australasian Grebe and
Swinhoe's Snipe at the sewage ponds and Royal Spoonbills, a
Wedge-tailed Eagle and Pacific Baza. Koels are calling and
there are a few Dollarbirds.
