Cockatiel, Regent Parrot and others
Hogwash River Flats (20 kms from Waikerie SA)
Today we visited the short gravel track known as Hogwash Flats
We observed about 5 Cockatiels perched in a large gum tree among several yellow rosellas. It is the first sighting we have seen of Cockatiels in the wild in a very long time. We also observed several Regent Parrots, a pair of Red-kneed Dotterels and several Buff-banded Rails all within 100 metres of each sighting.

White-necked Heron
St Hallett Winery, Tanunda
Flushed off edge of ford across North Para River. Unusual for this area, first one I've come across in the Barossa. Making another new species for the winery grounds after the Black Falcon a few days ago!

Scarlet chested Parrot
Gluepot Gypsum Lunette Walk
After 5 fantastic birding days at the Gluepot Reserve we experienced the following sightings:
9.30am A single male perched near the hollow that he has been checking out each day since we have been there.
10.15am Further down the track we suddenly discovered a pair of SCP's feeding together and then mating.

Black Falcon, Crested Shrike-tit
St Hallett Winery, Tanunda
Single bird flying from the south about 50m above tree-top height. First time I have seen a Black Falcon over my winery in the 10 years I have worked there! There is a pair which reside 'over' the range near Sheoak Log and the Sturt Hwy, so maybe one of these birds? although it was very dark so may have been a wandering juvenile?
Also a pair of Crested Shrike-tits were defending their territory vigorously against their reflections on the winery cars windows and mirrors early in the morning!

Shy Heathwren
Main track into Taylorville Station
A Shy Heathwren was perched on a bush 2 metres from our car window. Many special sightings were experienced within the Gluepot Reserve including several Chestnut Quail-thrushes, several Chestnut-crowned Babblers, 5 Black-eared Miners, 2 Mistletoebirds, 2 Striated Grasswrens. We are so thankful to Birds Australia for making the experience of spending time in a pristine natural environment a possibility.
