Presumably the Wedge-tailed Shearwater off Sydney on 9 July 2011 was out of
season. The August bird might not be out of season but in the context of the
july record I'd be cautious about calling it early returner.

Hi all,
Yes, Paul is right. I should have checked my own database and also the SOSSA
website! Wedge-tailed Shearwater arrives in NSW in August - so it was not out
of season!
Cheers,
Nikolas

Hi all, I apologise for my tardiness but I kept swapping and changing things
with the resurrected 'The Petrel' first brought out by the late Tony Ashby and
myself in 1995-96. This time it's in the form of a PDF so distribution will be
so much easier and it's FREE to anyone wishing a copy. Just e-mail me, for
anyone wishing the PDF, it will also possibly be down-loadable from the SOSSA
website.
Also Nikolas, a mid-August Wedge-tailed Shearwater off Sydney is not
particularly an out of season bird. That is a normal arrival time up here off
Southport and that is only roughly 800 kilometres to the north, your bird is
merely an early returner. Cheers - Paul.
