Corner Country trip

Two sightings worth reporting from a recent trip to SW Queensland, NW NSW and the Strzelecki Track.

About 22 km from the Moomba turn-off towards Innaminka on the Strzelecki Track, there's a large pull-off area which is probably used by overnight campers, with quite a few substantial trees. There were six Letter-winged Kites roosting here.

At Cameron Corner, a pair of Grey Falcons flew over the roadhouse from Queensland into South Australia, but missed NSW by about 100 meters.

Some other good birds on the trip were Bourke's Parrot (three times), Chestnut-breasted Quail-thrush at Bowra, more than 20 Cinnamon Quail-thrushes, and Banded Whiteface at two locations in the Strzelecki and Merty Merty areas. But don't ask about grasswrens - many fruitless hours were wasted trekking over sand dunes and through lignum swamps. I've tried for nine, and seen three. Anyone got any tips on how to see them?
