I've had good views of a over-wintering koel in the Blue Mountains (in July 1985) but its surpising how few reports there are of over-wintering koels around Sydney - might not be even one per year, even with much increased numbers of koels & more observers. Of course, silent koels are not the most conspicuous of birds. One bird that turns up at this time of year that Gordon's son might have possible confused for a koel from a poor view is Spangled Drongo. Andrew |
