Sorry, I should have mentioned, Rankins Springs is in NSW. Slightly more
specialised, though perhaps a little less "exotic" than Borneo, but around the
same time, is the Australian Wildlife Sound Recording Group's workshop in
Western Australia which includes a beginners course on field recording and
editing.
