Australasian Bittern sighted today at 1235 at a dam at my community at Stony Chute (within 500m of 28º 35’ 19” S - 153º 08’ 16” E). I was passing over the dam wall on the tractor when it flushed. It flew from exactly the same position (close to the causeway in reeds and long grass) to exactly the same perch (log in full view protruding from far bank about 25m away) as my one and only previous - and first - sighting of this bird in Feb 09, when I was on foot with binos. Interesting... same individual perhaps?
