Hi Bob

I think that is a very balanced email, I hope that the new organisation respects your views.

However if the new 'BirdLife Australia' leaves people with the impression that they can take or leave it as 'some birding club' then it will have seriously failed.

My great hope for the merged organisation is that it is seen as a conservation group (albeit bird focused!) that can attract a wider membership, and improve the voice 'we' as a community that cares about the habitats and the birdlife and other wildlife around us can use to counter other strong hobby based lobby groups such as the shooting groups.

It's never going to be as big as the RSPB or the ABC but I would hope we would give it a damn good try!
