Thanks Kevin, but as a pre-Baby-Boomer Pom I share the reservations of others on the WWW about the attribution of the Spaghetti Tree to Panorama, even though BBC websites say that is where it appeared in 1957).

My clear memory is of seeing it on a report by Alan Whicker on the Beeb's 'Tonight'.

And yes! This thread has to do with birding - it's about gullibility [I wonder what that word has to do with gulls?].

As a classic case of gullibility, see the case of the 'Hastings Rarities'. Of course nothing like that could happen these days - could it?
