Cattle Egret
Jerrabomberra Wetlands
Four cattle egrets in non-breeding plumage observed this morning in the cow paddocks. Also at least 25 white-faced Herons in two main flocks and 8 Black-fronted Dotterels in the pond near the hospice.

White-throated Nightjar
Mulligans Flat
Had the good fortune to flush one of these beasties earlier today. Unfortunately it zoomed off eastwards but for those interested it was at 35 09' 54" / 149 09' 39". If you are walking into Mulligans from the main carpark in Forde, keep going past the shearing shed, after a fairly short distance you will see a dam on the right. The nightjar was in woodland 200 metres or so further along, on the right hand side of the road and only 30 metres or so in

Powerfull Owl
98 Gouger Street Torrens
I live at 96, bird in front garden of 98 about 6 metres up on dead branch. Calling resonantly, puffing out breast as it called. I had a powerfull torch on it and it was facing away from me, but seem to have lighter coloured breast feathers, consistent with juvenile, but call unmistakably Powerful Owl adult.A very large bird. Did not get binoculars on it as when I returned with the bins it had just flown away to the south east I think. My wife said she had heard it call other nights recently but not sure from where. I have recently been aware of a night bird in our back garden area recently and again in the trees near 98 and 100 Gouger St when I had been out at night and been aware of a bird which I saw flying arround. We have had Boobooks before but not recently so had assumed that is what it was, but it may have been this bird as I understand that they roost in the same vicinity for a period as the one did in the Botanic Gardens.
