New Year greetings to you all,
To start the new year off with a bang I thought I'd head across to the
northern plains and explore the sights around Terrick Terrick, Mount Hope
and surrounds. Having read Rohan Clarke's recent post I thought I'd walk
some grassland country first before the day got too hot and the exposure to
the elements less than comfortable. To my pleasure Little Button-quail and
Red-chested Button-quail were flushed, as too were Stubble Quail, Pipit,
Bushlark and Brown Songlark. Down on the Bendigo Creek Rufous Songlark and
Zebra Finch were encountered.
In the sheltered forest of the Terrick Terricks I was rewarded with views of
Hooded Robin from near the cemetary; Rufous Whistler and Brown Treecreeper
around the main picnic area; while other parts yielded Diamond Firetail,
Southern Whiteface, Jacky Winter, Restless Flycatcher and Brown-headed
Honeyeater.
Away from the Terricks and to the north at Mount Hope Rainbow Bee-eater,
Horsefiled's Bronze-cuckoo and White-fronted Chat. A dam passed on the side
of an unnamed road produced Plumed Whistling-Duck, though I settled for two
as compared to Rohan Clarke's 80+. Other ducks about the area included Aust.
Shelduck, Wood Duck, Pacific Black Duck, Grey and Chestnut Teal.
A good days birding, in better temperatures than yesterday.
Regards to all,
Moses Moutin
