Hi Dave,

Interested to see the exhibition. The birds are:

Lalage = White-winged Triller. Lalage mean "talk", presumably referring to the
talkative nature of Triller.

Leatherhead = Noisy Friarbird, which is self explanatory.

While Rock Pebbler = Regent Parrot. Also Rock Peplar. Used in bird keeping
circles, and not sure what it means? Pebbler possibly relates to pebbles (small
rock). This is just a guess, but I'm wondering if they swallow small stones or
gravel? Birds such as toucans and parrots with their strong
beaks are unable to crush their food into smaller pieces so they use gravel and
stones inside the gizzards. These are moved about by muscular
contractions, grinding together with whatever food the bird has consumed.

Cheers,

Tim

Visited Werribee Mansion this morning and one of the exhibits was a
collection of birds eggs collected around Werribee in the 1920s. Most names
were recognisable for modern species, but these three had me stumped. Any
clues?
