Yes, Thickknees have adapted to human presence. There were a pair
nesting in a garden beside a traffic light controlled intersection in
inner Brisbane a few weeks ago. They would have been a couple of
metres from the footpath.

Kincumber Hotel late on Sunday afternoon when a BSC wandered out
from a scrappy garden behind the motel rooms. The bird didn't seem
unduly bothered when guests moved out of one of the rooms close by,
nor when my friend approached to take some photos (on his phone, and
not worth showing, unfortunately).
My friends often see them around the waterfront where they live at
Davistown.
